The story of an 11-year-old boy who was abducted in China 24 years ago and reunited with his family after being found in the United States.
The parents reunited with abducted son after 24 years is a heartwarming story of how a young boy was found and returned to his family.
The hunt for Guo finally came to an end last Thursday, 24 years after his abduction.
Guo, now an adult residing in nearby Henan province, was discovered and reunited with his parents, according to police in Liaocheng City, Shandong province. The family is seen in tears and hugging tightly in video footage released by police on Sunday, crying out, “We found you, you’ve come back.”
According to police, two individuals admitted to kidnapping and trafficking Guo.
Guo’s parents informed authorities in 1997 that he had been kidnapped near their house by an unknown lady. Authorities gathered blood, DNA samples, and other evidence, but the case remained unresolved due to inadequate technology at the time, the police stated on Tuesday on their official social media account.
The investigation was never concluded, and police claim they kept looking into it for another 24 years.
Guo Gangtang, Guo Xinzhen’s father, never stopped searching. According to state-run news agency Xinhua, when his son went missing, he started on a hunt throughout China, riding a motorcycle across almost all of the country’s regions, traveling 500,000 kilometers (310,685 miles).
He just had a backpack full of flyers and a flag adorned with a photo of his kid with him. According to Xinhua, he spent all of his money and built up massive debts while on his lengthy trip, burning through ten bikes.
When his quest became the subject of the 2015 film “Lost and Love,” starring Hong Kong actor Andy Lau, it drew widespread notice.
According to Xinhua, Gangtang was unable to locate his son, but was able to assist in the recovery of more than 100 other children who had been kidnapped and reunited with their families.
Authorities discovered a fresh lead this year. The Ministry of Public Security discovered a possible match in Henan using cutting-edge technologies such as DNA analysis and facial feature comparison, and when police tracked him down, DNA testing verified that he was the missing Guo Xinzhen.
According to a police social media post, officers arrested a suspected child trafficker known simply as Hu and his ex-girlfriend identified as Tang. After questioning, the two admitted to kidnapping Guo Xinzhen in 1997. She immediately ran into Hu, and the two of them boarded a bus to Henan, where they sold the kid.
Guo Xinzhen’s whereabouts are unknown, and authorities have given no further information on his upbringing.
a long-standing issue
In China, child kidnapping and trafficking have long been an issue, with many parents never being able to locate their children. Activists and academics believe China’s one-child policy, which has been eased in recent years, has worsened the issue. The government declared in May that couples will be able to have up to three children.
However, due to the tight regulation and China’s patriarchal culture, it was typical for couples to want a male for decades, resulting in a black market for trafficking newborn boys, while girls are often sold to foreign adoptive parents, fraudulently classified as orphans.
It’s unclear how many children go missing in China each year, but estimates range from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands. The US State Department’s anti-trafficking agency has given China a Tier 3 rating, the lowest possible, indicating that the country “does not completely satisfy the basic criteria for the eradication of trafficking.”
The government has increased efforts to combat the issue since the turn of the century, including the establishment of a national DNA database in 2009 and an online anti-trafficking platform in 2016. According to Xinhua, they have assisted police in locating more than 4,700 missing children in the last five years.
