Despite the club’s massive expenditure to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus, Erling Haaland remains Manchester United’s top transfer target next summer, according to ESPN sources.
Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and PSG are all interested in Haaland, who has a €75 million release clause in his Borussia Dortmund contract that he may activate at the conclusion of the season.

Despite the fact that Ronaldo’s signing was funded outside of United’s initial summer transfer budget, insiders have informed ESPN that it will have no effect on next year’s recruiting plans or the current battle for Haaland.
United will pay an initial €15 million for Ronaldo, with an additional €8 million in five-year payments, but despite the low transfer fee, the 36-year-old will be the highest-paid player in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad by a long shot, despite sources claiming he has taken a significant pay cut from his Juventus salary of £510,000 per week.
According to sources, the club couldn’t pass up the chance to re-sign Ronaldo, who departed United for Real Madrid for £80 million in 2009, particularly when it was revealed that the Portugal captain was in discussions with City.
While the acquisition has given United a plethora of offensive alternatives, the long-term goal of acquiring Haaland has remained unchanged.

During the 2019-20 winter transfer window, United came close to signing the Norway international from FC Salzburg, but he chose to join Dortmund instead.
Despite the fact that United insiders blamed the failure on demands from the Haaland camp for a release clause, communication with Haaland’s agents has been maintained, and Solskjaer’s friendship with Haaland has remained unchanged. (When Haaland made his senior debut for the Norwegian club Molde as a youngster, he played for Solskjaer.)
United will face strong competition to acquire the player next summer, with City’s failure to sign Tottenham’s Harry Kane last month boosting the possibility of a prolonged bid for Haaland by the Premier League winners.
Bayern Munich see Haaland as the perfect long-term successor for Robert Lewandowski, and PSG are reportedly willing to make a bid for him to compensate for Kylian Mbappe’s anticipated free transfer to Real Madrid at the conclusion of the season.
Meanwhile, Madrid will be in the running after avoiding having to pay a transfer fee for Mbappe, whose contract with PSG ends in June 2022.
United, on the other hand, believes they have the resources to win the race for Haaland, and that the arrival of Ronaldo may help them, given Haaland’s obvious love for United’s new acquisition.
